As Seen Through These Eyes, a documentary film in which Holocaust survivors tell their stories through the art they created during their imprisonment, will be shown at the Springfield Museum of Fine Arts on Sunday, March 30, at 1 p.m. The film is part of the Pioneer Valley Jewish Film Festival and is co-sponsored by the Hatikvah Holocaust Education Center.
The film is narrated by Maya Angelou and was directed by Hilary Helstein, who has traveled the world compiling interviews with survivors. Ela Stein Weissberger, who was imprisoned in Theresienstadt as a child and is one of the survivors featured in the film, will introduce the film. Also featured in the film is survivor and Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal. Through a series of interviews, the film tells the story of a brave group of people who risked their lives to fight back with the only weapons they had: charcoal, pencil stubs, shreds of paper and memories. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for seniors and students. To purchase tickets in advance call the Jewish Community Center at 413-739-4715. Tickets will also be available at the door.
