March 2008 Stars Over Springfield

The Springfield Science Museum's large rooftop telescope will be open for public sky-gazing on Friday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m.

Ed Faits, former president of the Springfield Stars Club, will present "Saturn with Your Eye and Cassini." Since 2004, NASA's Cassini spacecraft has been in orbit around Saturn and has sent back stunning images of the planet, its rings and its moons. Following the presentation, participants will have the chance to view Saturn through the telescope. The program will be held rain or shine. If it is overcast, a planetarium show will be presented in place of using the telescope. Stars Over Springfield observatory programs are offered on the first Friday of each month from September through May. The programs are best suited for families with children ages 8 and older, however younger children are also welcome. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children 17 and under. For information about astronomy programs, call 413.263.6800, ext. 318.
