Joseph Carvalho, president and executive director of the Springfield Museums, and Holly Smith-Bové, the Museums' chief financial officer, recently completed the Achieving Excellence executive leadership program for non-profit cultural organizations in Massachusetts.
The rigorous, year-long program was presented by Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. Carvalho has been with the museum organization for more than 30 years. He holds an M.A. in American History from the College of William & Mary, an M.L.S. in Library and Information Science from the University of Rhode Island, and is a certified archivist. Prior to becoming president, he was director of the Connecticut Valley Historical Museum. A graduate of Hamilton College, Smith-Bové joined the Springfield Museums staff in 2003. She has more than 18 years of financial, accounting and operations experience in both for-profit and non-profit environments.
