The Museum School at the Springfield Museums offers courses and experiential learning opportunities for both children and adults on an ongoing basis. Registration is now underway for fall courses and trips – for complete course descriptions, travel itineraries, fees and to register, visit springfieldmuseums.org or call 413.263.6800, ext. 377 or 382.
Courses in studio art, art history, and writing have long been a central part of the Museum School offerings, and are available for a wide range of ages. The courses are designed with the Museums’ collections in mind, and often take place in the museum galleries themselves. Of particular note is pastel portraiture master class by acclaimed artist Paul Leveille from October 17 through 19. The range of available courses has been expanded in recent years to include newer topics like robotics both for children and adults along with instruction in winemaking, culinary arts, and yoga.
Adult travel opportunities are also a regular part of the Museum School programs, with tours of New York’s Frick Museum, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and the Concord Museum all slated for this fall. Multiple day trips to Pennsylvania’s Brandywine region and the provincial French countryside in 2014 are also currently available on a limited basis.
