The Springfield Museums' Weekend Family Fun series will continue with Dinosaur Day on Friday, November 25, and a special Holiday Season Kick-Off on Saturday, November 26.
Friday, November 25 – "Dinosaur Day" (Museums open at 10 a.m.) 2 p.m., Museum of Fine Arts –"Make Friends with the Dinosaurs" – The Magic Castle Puppet Theater tells the story of a young Triceratops who meets a young Tyrannosaurus rex. Both are waiting for their mothers to return with their food. A special friendship develops as they compare the differences between meat-eaters and plant-eaters and help each other overcome the obstacles facing the young in prehistoric times. Noon – 3:30 p.m., Science Museum – Learn about dinosaurs with a museum interpreter in Dinosaur Hall, decorate dinosaur eggs, and take part in Family Science Adventures and crafts. Noon – 3:30 p.m., all museums – Watch for costumed dinosaurs roaming the museums. Saturday, November 26 – "Holiday Season Kick-Off" (Museums open at 11 a.m.) 1:45 p.m., Museum of Fine Arts – Enjoy "The Season of Light," an interactive, multicultural show by Caravan Puppets. 11:15 a.m., 12:30 & 3:15 p.m., George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum – Listen to a reading of the Dr. Seuss classic, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. 1, 2, & 3 p.m., Science Museum – See a planetarium show (additional fee). 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., all museums – Search the museum exhibits for hidden nutcracker dolls. Enter a free drawing to win a nutcracker donated by the Moscow Ballet (drawing at 3:30 p.m.). Noon – 3:30 p.m. Science Museum – Have your picture taken with the Grinch ($2 per photo), and take a closer look at snowflakes and winter weather during Family Science Adventures. George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum – Color nutcracker pictures and create winter art. Activities are free with the price of museum admission, unless noted.
