Museums’ Summer Celebration Features Drumming, Juggling, and Yo-Yos

The Springfield Museums’ Summer Celebration series continues July 25-29 with live performances presented on Toe-Tapping Tuesdays, Wacky Wednesdays, and Fun Fridays.


Activities are free with the price of museum admission unless noted. Summer Celebration is sponsored in part by Berkshire Bank.

Daily Activities, July 25-29

  • Control your own virtual dinosaur in the special exhibit “Be the Dinosaur” and dig for fossils in the Dinosaur Dig Lab. (additional fee)
  • Hands-on Family Science Adventures, 10 am-1 pm
  • Planetarium Shows, 11:15 am, noon, 1 pm, and 2 pm (additional fee)
  • Art-making activity: Make a Greek, African, or Mayan Mask, noon-3:45 pm
  • Pan for gems and minerals in the Museum Mining Company’s river sluice. (additional fee)

Tuesday, July 26

  • Performance: “Taiko Thunder” by Odaiko New England – A performance of ancient Japanese drumming combined with dynamic movement and rhythms from other traditions, 1 pm

Wednesday, July 27

  • Performance: “Prop Comic Lucky Bob” – A blend of magic, juggling and comedy, 1 pm
  • Child Safety and Identification Day: Fingerprinting and photos for child identification cards. Parent or guardian must be present. The program is sponsored by New York Life; 11 am-3 pm

Friday, July 29

  • Performance: “Positive Spin” by Ooch World – An imaginative show about the challenges of growing up, featuring music, yo-yos, and dance, 1 pm
