Native American Pow Wow – 2008

The Springfield Museums will celebrate fall with a Native American Pow Wow on Saturday, October 18, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Quadrangle grounds. The Pow Wow is part of the Museums' Weekend Family Fun series sponsored by TD Banknorth.


The Pow Wow will take place rain or shine. If it rains, performances will be held in the auditorium of the Michele & Donald D'Amour Museum of Fine Arts. Activities are free with museum admission unless noted. Display and sale of traditional Native American crafts, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Traditional drumming, singing and dancing with the Eastern Suns, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2-4 p.m. ($4 for adults, $2 for children). Craft demonstrations by Native American artisans, 1-2 p.m. Visit Native American Hall and see an actual boulder from a local site where Native Americans made tools and bowls, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Science Museum. Watch films about Native Americans, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Science Museum Make a "talking stick" and other Native American-inspired crafts, noon-3:45 p.m., G.W.V. Smith Art Museum. Complete a quest to earn a corn husk doll kit, 1-2:30 p.m. The Springfield Museums' family learning initiative is funded, in part, by MassMutual Financial Group; the Horace A.
