The Springfield Museums present a new, free online astronomy experience: AstroQuest Online, the third Tuesday of each month from 7-8:15 pm, via ZOOM.

While the popular gathering Stars over Springfield takes the summer off—the night sky is dark too late in the evening—this new virtual series will keep those who love the stars engaged. AstroQuest features a Q&A segment on a topic in astronomy as well as a virtual tour of the night sky. Guest appearances and photographs from local amateur astronomers highlighting recent observations will also be featured.

“When we took our programming online over the past year, we discovered new tools and fun new ways to bring astronomy to our audience,” said Michael Kerr, Director of the Springfield Science Museum. “Our visitors loved what we offered, and now we get to keep on having fun online with AstroQuest!”

A collaborative effort of Kerr and Kevin Kopchynski, Astronomy and STEM Educator for the Springfield Museums, AstroQuest offers unique opportunities that take observation to a new level. “The online format allows us to explore methods of astronomy education that are not available during the traditional on-campus events,” said Kopchynski.

“We look forward to September, when we’ll resume our in-person public astronomy series, Stars over Springfield,” Kerr said. “In the meantime, we’re equally excited to launch this new series! After all, as the universe expands, we want to be sure that our knowledge and appreciation of all things astronomical expands along with it!”
