Springfield (MA)—Please join the Springfield Museums for a Seussian Summer Celebration Saturday, June 15, from 10 am to 5 pm. The day will be action packed with interactive workshops and brand-new exhibits added to the already popular Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museums.
“The new interactives in the Amazing World of Dr. Seuss invite visitors to experience education and entertainment through hands-on, immersive fun, all in the spirit of Dr. Seuss’s wonderful whimsy. We are excited to continue to augment this remarkable museum,” said Susan Brandt, President of Dr. Seuss Enterprises, L.P., the creative partner for the Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum.
In keeping with the Springfield Museums’ ongoing effort to offer more accessible, interactive, immersive experiences, the new interactive exhibits enhance what is already a winning feature of the five-museum complex.
“The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss is a tremendous asset for the Museums and for Springfield,” said Kay Simpson, CEO and President of the Springfield Museums. “Since opening the museum two years ago, we have doubled our visitation! This place just makes everyone smile!” Simpson is excited to share the new interactives added to the museum in celebration of the third summer of Seuss.
These bilingual (Spanish and English) play and learn stations continue the intention of The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss as a museum that helps make learning FUN.
WHAT’S NEW
In the Fairfield Street Gallery:
- A tilting-table, marble maze that features some of the Springfield sites Young Ted used to frequent
In the Young Ted in Springfield Gallery:
- A newly refurbished and expanded Seuss Bakery to more closely mimic the original George Seuss Bakery (by far the most popular play area of our newest museum)
- In the Zoo, a bilingual activity table with interchangeable surfaces to accommodate Legos, tangrams, and whacky creature creation
In Whoville (formerly What Pet Should I Get Gallery)
- A giant light bright, Pixel Pegs
- A magnetic interactive of shoots, spinners, and tubes to get the marble Grinch down from Mount Crumpit to Whoville
In Readingville, The Lorax
- A newly refurbished recycling game that helps visitors distinguish shapes while learning the importance of caring for our Earth by recycling.
In the Ted 2 Ted Gallery (second floor)
- A listening nook where people of all ages can listen to the books by Dr. Seuss while others in their group might have an opportunity to read all the letters Dr. Seuss sent to his great nephew Ted Owens
The Springfield Museums is so excited to announce these new interactive exhibits for The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum! The Education Department worked together with Dr. Seuss Enterprises to develop stations sure to engage curiosity, joy, creativity, and most important literacy in both Spanish and English.
“Everything about this museum that was fun, became even more fun,” said Larissa Murray, Director of Education for the Museums. “I don’t know which feature I am most excited about—maybe the new bakery because it is wonderfully unique, hand-built by our amazing carpenter Jim Webber. The new bakery includes recipe cards in Spanish and English.”
Visit June 15th and be among the first to try these exciting new interactives in the first and only museum dedicated to Springfield native Theodor Seuss Geisel, AKA Dr. Seuss, the author who revolutionized learning how to read by making it FUN!
Join us for The Seussian Summer Celebration June 15th, and stop back throughout the summer for our One Summer, Two Summers, Three Summers of Seuss: Summer Spectacular. There is always something new at the Springfield Museums. One admission: Five Museums. It’s worth the trip!
