Each fall, the Springfield Museums pay tribute to Springfield’s role in transportation history with their annual “History on the Move” Car Show. The eleventh annual event will take place on Saturday, September 6, from 9 am to 3 pm on the museum grounds at the Quadrangle. A wide assortment of muscle cars and vintage early automobiles will be displayed, including many pre-1980 cars and an assortment of vintage automobiles manufactured in Springfield. This year’s Car Show is sponsored by AAA of Pioneer Valley.

Through a special arrangement with the Brooklyn Museum, the Springfield Museums have extended the engagement of American Moderns, 1910-1960: From O’Keeffe to Rockwell at the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts. The new closing date is now Sunday, September 7, allowing visitors an additional week to enjoy this unique and wide-ranging exhibit.

The Springfield Museums’ monthly tour and lecture schedule returns in September with the popular Thursday Museums à la Carte lectures, held weekly at 12:15 p.m. in the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts. Admission is $4 ($2 for members of the Springfield Museums); visitors are invited to bring lunch (cookies and coffee are provided). The programs are sponsored by Big Y World Class Market. The Springfield Museums at the Quadrangle and the Springfield City Library will host the annual “LittleFest” event to promote a love of reading in young children, on Saturday, September 13, from 10 am to 5 pm.

Art Picnic, a public arts project designed to beautify Springfield and allow local art students to collaborate with established artists, will culminate with a Community Picnic on Sunday, August 24 from noon–2 pm.

The Springfield Museums have been selected to participate in the Museum Assessment Program (MAP). The program is funded by the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and administered by the American Alliance of Museums (AAM). Last year, the Springfield Museums received full accreditation from the AAM, a milestone that only 6% museums in America have achieved.

The “Summer Spectacular Family Series” at Springfield Museums continues during the week of July 14. The six-week series includes a host of programs and events every weekday through August 15. All programs and performances are free with admission unless otherwise noted.

The Springfield Museums will present their fifth annual Indian Day, a revival of a long-standing celebration and rally of the classic motorcycles that were manufactured in the city from 1901 to 1953. Indian Day will take place on Sunday, July 20, from 9 am- 3 pm on the grounds of the Springfield Museums at the Quadrangle. The event is sponsored by The Sampson Family and AAA Pioneer Valley. MassMutual is the 2014 Premier Sponsor of the Springfield Museums.
