Springfield Museums’ December Lectures To Feature Palmer and Chicopee History

The Springfield Museums will present the following Museums à la Carte lecture programs in December. The programs are held on Thursdays at 12:15 pm in the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts.


  • December 13 – Palmer, Massachusetts: The Town of Seven Railroads. Phil Opielowski and Larry Lowenthal, author and retired Springfield Armory historian. Lowenthal and Opielowski, editors of the book One Town and Seven Railroads, will speak about the effect of rail lines, proposed and actually created, on the community of Palmer.
  • December 20 – Chicopee 1950-1975: The Strategic Air Command (SAC) Years. Stephen R. Jendrysik, Chicopee Historian. The lecture will discuss the nearly three decade relationship between the Strategic Air Command of the United States Air Force and a small New England city.

Admission to Museums à la Carte is $4 ($2 for members of the Springfield Museums). The programs are sponsored by Big Y World Class Market. Visitors are invited to bring lunch to enjoy during the program. Cookies and coffee are provided.
