Springfield Museums’ Summer Celebration Series Continues This August

The Springfield Museums’ Summer Celebration series continues August 1-5 with live performances presented at 1 pm on Toe-Tapping Tuesdays, Wacky Wednesdays, and Fun Fridays.


Activities are free with the price of museum admission unless noted. Summer Celebration is sponsored in part by Berkshire Bank. General museum admission will be free to everyone on Friday, August 5, thanks to a Free Fun Friday grant from the Highland Street Foundation.

Daily Activities, August 1-5

  • See a huge, moving robotic Tyrannosaurus rex, dig for fossils, and control your own computer-simulated dinosaur in the special exhibit “Be the Dinosaur.” (additional fee)
  • Hands-on Family Science Adventures, 10 am-1 pm
  • Planetarium Shows, 11:15 am, noon, 1 pm, and 2 pm (additional fee)
  • Art-making activity: Make a Barnyard Bookmark, noon-3:45 pm
  • Pan for gems and minerals in the Museum Mining Company’s river sluice. (additional fee)

Tuesday, August 2

  • Performance: World Rhythms Percussion Concert by Tony Vacca – A non-stop spectacle of percussion music, spoken word and rhythm poetry, 1 pm

Wednesday, August 3

  • Performance: “The Yo-Yo Show” –  The Yo-Yo People bring back a nostalgic toy with familiar tricks and amazing new stunts, 1 pm

Friday, August 5:  Free Fun Friday – Museum Admission is free for everyone!

  • Living Art Presentation: Actors from Ten31 Productions will portray the subjects of the painting Three Musicians by artist Pablo Picasso, 10:30 am-12:30 pm
  • Performance: “The Lion’s Whiskers” by Catskill Puppet Theater – A traditional Ethiopian folktale with a charming cast of human and animal characters, 1 pm
