The auction will run from Friday, February 28, 2025, at 12 pm through Monday, March 10, 2025, at 5 pm. The Museums are home to the world’s only museum dedicated to the Springfield native and beloved children’s author, with proceeds from the plates supporting their mission to promote literacy and learning.
The full catalog of available plates can be viewed online now at https://DrSeussPlates.givesmart.com. Highlights include the coveted “DR 1” plate, as well as other single- and double-digit plates that may hold personal significance, such as birthdays or anniversaries.
“We’re thrilled with the response to the Dr. Seuss plate and are looking forward to offer a limited release of these low-numbered plates in this exciting charitable auction,” said Kay Simpson, President and CEO of the Springfield Museums. “This is a unique opportunity to acquire a previously unavailable plate, while supporting our efforts to promote literacy and the joy of reading through programs offered at the Springfield Museums.”

About the Dr. Seuss Specialty Plate
The Museums began a campaign to offer Massachusetts drivers a specialty license plate in 2019 and in March 2024 exceeded the minimum number of applications required for the Registry of Motor Vehicles to begin production of a specialty plate. The Registry reached out to this initial round of supporters in late January 2025 with details on receiving their Cat in the Hat plates.
Dr. Seuss Plates not included in the auction can be purchased online or at an RMV service center. Anyone with a passenger car registered in Massachusetts is eligible. Specialty plates cost $40, plus standard registration fees, with a portion supporting the Museums. When re-registered, the full $40 benefits the Museums.
The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum was created with the gracious consent of Mrs. Audrey Geisel, widow of Theodor S. Geisel, and Dr. Seuss Enterprises, L.P.
