Dr. Cecelia Gross, chair of the History/Political Science Department at Springfield Technical Community College, will lead a walking tour of important sites in the Court Square area from 10:30-noon on Saturday, Oct. 14. The tour will begin and end at the Springfield Museums at the Quadrangle on Edwards Street off Chestnut Street.
The tour will focus on places that are part of the African-American Heritage Trail and will include a brief visit to the Pan-African Heritage Museum of the USA (PAHMUSA) in Tower Square for a look at some local artifacts. The tour is part of the Second Saturday Walking Tour series, co-sponsored by the Armoury-Quadrangle Civic Association and the Springfield Museums. Walking tour tickets are available in the museum Welcome Center on Edwards Street and are free for members of the civic association or of the museums. Tickets for non-members are $5 per person. All proceeds will go toward improvements to the neighborhood. Café Lebanon is offering 10% off lunch on the day of the tour with your ticket, and The Fort restaurant is offering a free miniature glass beer stein on tour day with your ticket. Walking tour participants will also receive a $2 discount on Museum admission that day.
