Gel Plate Printmaking: Van Gogh Edition

May 4, 2025 @ 1:00 pm3:30 pm
| Cost: $100 | Cost for Members: $85

Are you interested in simple and gorgeous mark-making and printmaking techniques that you can create in your kitchen? We will explore the world of printmaking together with 8”x10” Speedball Gel plates during our class, to create seven one-of-a-kind prints. We will make prints inspired by the special exhibition Van Gogh for All. Make sure you see the show before you come to class! It is truly inspirational!

Gel Plates are different from Plexi plates and offer a depth of detail and dimensionality which our other plates do not. We will not be working with the printing press. Let’s delight in creating texture and lines with this technique! We’ll use stencils and found objects from the instructor’s magic box of mark-making tools, and you are invited to bring along materials to share with others. No experience necessary with the printing process; students receive personal attention from the teacher. If you want to bring your own Gel Plate, it must be 8”x10” or smaller. Otherwise, Gel Plates will be provided along with seven sheets of paper, and Akua Inks in the three primary colors only. Students may bring a pad of newsprint that’s around 12″ x 18″ in size. Students may also bring textures like flowers, stencils, doilies, lace, etc. to experiment with and share with your peers! Let’s have fun and print together! We will use Akua Inks, which are soy-based. We use these amazing inks, using warm soapy water to clean up plates and rollers afterwards. No experience necessary with the printing process; students receive personal attention from the teacher. Let’s explore flowers together in this fun and easy class!
