Elizabeth Park combines European formal with Olmsted–style natural gardens offering just over one hundred acres of formal gardens, green space, recreational facilities, and walking trails. The rose garden is the first public rose garden in the country and spans 2.5 acres. Designed by Jacob Weidenmann, a student of FL Olmstead, Cedar Hill Cemetery is a premiere example of the American “rural” cemetery. Enhanced by its historic landscape, heirloom trees, finely sculpted monuments, and natural resources, it is the final resting place of a number of distinguished individuals. Enjoy guided tours of both sites with local docents and Elaine Chittenden, manager of the living plant collection at Smith College. Lunch at the Pond Café.
