Bubble Parties on the Quad, 11 am-2 pm
Join the fun, exciting, and interactive party! Dance to kid-friendly music and songs they know and like. Dance the limbo, with hula hoops, bubbles, and more.

Museum Members Only: Behind the Scenes at the Live Animal Center, 11 am
Join our aquarist for an exclusive tour of the Live Animal Center to learn about the special diets of the critters in our care and watch as some of them are fed.

Ongoing Activities

Cat’s Corner, 10 am-4 pm
Our Dr. Seuss-themed drop-in space on the Lower Level of the Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum. Stop in to read some of Ted Geisel’s original stories along with lots of other picture books, plus take part in facilitated art and literacy activities.

Exploring the Universe: Filtered Light, 11 am-3 pm
Learn how scientists can use telescopes and other tools to capture and filter different energies of light to study the universe. Most objects in the universe are so distant from us that we can only study them through light. Filters allow us to block some energy levels of light and isolate others; each energy of light can offer new information about the object of study.

Let’s Do Chemistry: The Nature of Dye, 11 am-3 pm
Where do dyes come from? How does chemistry help us create the different colors we use in paints and other art materials? Learn how bugs and chemistry combine to make shades of red, pink, orange, and purple in this hands-on experiment.

The Science of Color, 11 am-3 pm
What is color? How do we see it? Visit this station with books, puzzles, and hands on science for families of ages, and then do a color scavenger hunt through the D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts.

Art Discovery Center, noon-4 pm
Trace Chinese characters, try on costumes, play gallery games, peek under lift-up panels on the Wall of Symbols to discover the meaning behind Asian motifs, put on a puppet show, and make an art project. Today’s project: Create a Van Gogh-inspired Scene

Summer Spectacular is sponsored by Charles H. Hall Foundation, a Bank of America Trustee.
