The limited palette is a palette which consists of only 4 colors, and it is traditionally used as the introductory palette for new painters. The limitation of the palette teaches the art student how to get a wide variety of mixtures out of just a few hues by utilizing their relationships on the color wheel, thus gaining a deeper understanding of the nature of color. Through lecture and a series of exercises, students will master the ability to mix and match colors to their desired affects, as well as learn about the inner workings of color and how it is changed by light and form.
