The Springfield Museums’ Summer Celebration continues July 18-22 with live performances presented on Toe-Tapping Tuesdays, Wacky Wednesdays, and Fun Fridays.
Activities are free with the price of museum admission unless noted. Summer Celebration is sponsored in part by Berkshire Bank.
Daily Activities, July 18-22
- Control your own virtual dinosaur in the special exhibit “Be the Dinosaur” and dig for fossils in the Dinosaur Dig Lab. (additional fee)
- Hands-on Family Science Adventures, 10 am-1 pm
- Planetarium Shows, 11:15 am, noon, 1 pm, and 2 pm (additional fee)
- Art-making activity: Make a Greek, African, or Mayan Mask, noon-3:45 pm
Tuesday, July 19
- Performance: “African Touch” by Akwaaba Traditional Drum and Dance Ensemble – West African rhythm and dance, 1 pm
Wednesday, July 20
- Performance: “The Real McCoy Show” by Brent McCoy – A construction-themed comedy act with wild stunts and audience participation, 1 pm
- Child Safety and Identification Day: Fingerprinting and photos for child identification cards. Parent or guardian must be present. The program is sponsored by New York Life; 11 am-3 pm
Friday, July 22
- Performance: “The Nightingale” by Figures of Speech Theatre – Broadway musical adaptation of the classic Hans Christian Andersen tale with puppets and actors, 1 pm
Free admission is available through Labor Day for military personnel and their families through a partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Blue Star Museums program. Military visitors must present a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), a DD Form 1173 ID card, or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card, including those stamped URW and DB. These include active duty military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard), National Guard and Reserve members, and up to five immediate family members.
