Spring History Lecture Series Continues

The new Museum of Springfield History will continue its spring lecture series at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 28, with a talk titled “Crystal Products of the Frost King: Ice Harvesting and the Natural Ice Industry in New England.” The program will be held in the museum’s SIS Hall and is free with the price of museum admission.

The lecture will be presented by Dennis Picard, Director of the Storrowton Village Museum. Picard will display some of the antique tools of the ice harvesting trade, including several invented here in Massachusetts, and share the interesting tale of this once massive enterprise that is now fading from memory.

The series is co-sponsored by the Pioneer Valley History Network, a coalition of historical museums, libraries, and societies. Future talks in the series are:

April 11 – The Underground Railroad in Western Massachusetts

April 25 – Springfield and the California Gold Rush
