In a prepared statement, Smith-Bové said, “I've been seriously considering a career change for several months now, and after consulting with our board chair, we've decided that this was the right time to make that change, before the organization embarks on the forthcoming capital campaign. I'm proud of the positive growth that has occurred at the Springfield Museums during my tenure, and I'm confident that the organization will continue to flourish in the future.”
Board Chairman Samuel Hanmer commented, “On behalf of the board, we want to thank Holly for her years of service and wish her every success in her future endeavors.”
During Smith-Bové’s tenure as President, the Museums were awarded national accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums, the highest national recognition achievable by an American museum or consortium. She also led the organization through a critical strategic planning process and helped establish innovative programs like the popular Culture & Cocktails series and signature events like the annual Lighting of the Quadrangle Celebration.
Vice-President Kay Simpson will serve as interim President while the organization embarks on a search for a successor.
