Springfield Museums is pleased to announce Under the Sea Week, family fun for December 27-30! Inspired by Splash and Bubbles: Dive In, Lend a Fin! and our permanent collections, visitors can choose from a wonderful array of STEM and STEAM-based activities to explore our incredible One Big Ocean.
“This vacation week, families can play together in the warmth of the Springfield Museums while immersing themselves in hands-on learning,” said Larissa Murray, Director of Education. “Anchored by our exhibits, each day has special highlights in addition to recurring activity stations.”
DAILY HIGHLIGHTS
Monday, December 27: Sea Life Xrays, 11 am-3 pm: What do the insides of your favorite fish look like? Match each xray to a corresponding photograph to learn about shells, fish, and even seaweed.
Tuesday, December 28: Hula-La, 1 pm: Toe-tapping Caribbean music for all to dance. Featuring Mr. Tom of Toe Jam Puppet Band fame!
Wednesday, December 29: The Dragon King, 1 pm: Tanglewood Marionettes present an underwater adventure!
Thursday, December 30: Sea Life Xrays, 11 am-3 pm: What do the insides of your favorite fish look like? Match each xray to a corresponding photograph to learn about shells, fish, and even seaweed.
DAILY ACTIVITY STATIONS
Rainbow Fish, 11 am-2 pm: Everyone loves the resourceful and generous Rainbow Fish! Stop in to snap a selfie with our underwater friend.
Santa on Vacation, 11 am-2 pm: Santa loves visitors when he is on vacation! Stop by to say hello and receive a free book. Santa’s tropical backdrop makes a great photo opp, too!
Make a Gyotaku Fish Print, 11 am-3 pm: Japanese fishermen made prints to keep track of the number and types of fish they caught during the day. We’ll use a rubber fish instead of a real one to make a beautiful print you can take home.
Whale Station, 11 am-3 pm: Examine real whale specimens—from vertebrae to baleen—at this hands-on station.

Dive into the incredible world of ocean exploration in this early childhood STEM-based exhibit, Splash and Bubbles: Dive In, Lend a Fin!, based on the Jim Henson Company and Herschend Entertainment Studios PBS Kids TV series Splash and Bubbles.
Join Splash, Bubbles and the Reeftown Rangers to explore marine biology, ocean science, and different ocean ecosystems. Learn how even small actions can create a big ripple to help protect our One Big Ocean.
