Child Hugs Costume Characters Thing One And Two To Celebrate Dr. Seuss Birthday

Joyful Families Celebrate Dr. Seuss!

“Dr. Seuss is legendary. He inspires generations and generations of children to read and to fall in love with learning.” Melissa Warner, Birthday Party Celebrant at the Springfield Museums

The Springfield Museums celebrated Dr. Seuss’s Birthday with a breathtaking array of activities, including birthday cake to eat and costume characters to meet.

“From one end of the museum quadrangle to the other, many hundreds of families came to wish Dr. Seuss a happy 116th birthday Saturday,” reported Sy Becker of WWLP, Channel 22.

Dr. Seuss’s Birthday Party is Jenny Powers’ most-exciting day of the year—and that is saying a lot, since the Springfield Museums Family Engagement Coordinator consistently attracts large, enthusiastic, and joyful crowds to the Museums’ family fun days.

Powers approaches each of her family fun days with a focus on edutainment (education + entertainment). “When we celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday, we celebrate the joy his work brought into learning to read for generations!” That joy was evident throughout the museums on Saturday.

Melissa Warner, who was visiting the Museums with three-generations of her family, told Sy Becker: “Dr. Seuss is legendary. He inspires generations and generations of children to read and to fall in love with learning.”

She was definitely not alone in her enthusiasm for all things Seuss. “What do you think is in this building!” said an excited child as he rushed by to open yet another door to fun. And check out the array of wonderful images captures by MassLive reporter Steve Smith.

The next exciting day for Powers? Festival of Flowers Family Day, April 4, followed soon by School Vacation Week: All Aboard! Dinosaur Express April 20-24th! And, Powers is already planning for Dr. Seuss’s next birthday celebration.

Don’t miss the fun!
