Woodland scene – trees to right, valley to left foreground with three standing and one lying down deer. Cliffs to left in background
Forest Scene Summer is a serene example of a decorative Currier & Ives print. No specific subject matter is addressed, other than the majesty of rugged mountains and dense forest. Moss covered old growth trees shade the foreground of the picture. In the distance the sun breaks through a clearing, shining on a herd of deer as they move into a deep valley. Peaceful representations of wilderness captured the imagination of customers and created a complex image of the frontier as not only bursting with adventure but also one which filled the senses with wonder.
