The Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts’ Community Gallery is dedicated to showcasing the work of emerging and mid-career artists living in Western Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut. Therefore, Community Gallery exhibitions celebrate the rich and diverse talent of contemporary American artists living and working in our region. Artists are selected by jury and typically exhibit for a period of one year.

Applying to Exhibit in the Community Gallery

In order to be considered for a Community Gallery exhibition, interested artists must use the Museums’ online form to submit an artist statement and resume or CV, a list of previous exhibitions, and a digital portfolio. Successful submissions will showcase the artist’s vision, talent, and be united by an identifiable theme or approach.

Please note that submissions from artists working in all media are welcome. However, due to space constraints, the dimensions of submitted work should not exceed six (6) feet in any direction. Maximum weight of sculptural work should not exceed 100 lbs.  For relief work, maximum weight should not exceed 40 lbs. Artworks in new media such as video, installation, and performance art are also welcome, however, no water, perishable items, or animals can be displayed as part of any work.

The Springfield Museums receives numerous submissions to the Community Gallery each year, making the selection process competitive. Submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis and exhibits are planned a minimum of one year in advance. Artists whose applications are selected will be contacted directly by the Museums’ curator. All other applications will be kept on file.
