Registration for fall courses for children and teens at the Springfield Museums at the Quadrangle will begin September 10. Art Classes Artistic Discovery – Beryl Salinger-Schmitt, instructor; ages 6-8; Wed., 3:45-5:15 p.m., Oct. 3-Nov. 14. Create art using paint, clay, papier-m'ché, masks, collage, crafts, scissors, staplers, Craypas and glue. Pots & Paints – Ruthie Sutter, instructor; ages 9-11; Wed., 3:45-5:15 p.m., Oct. 3-Nov. 14. Work with paint, clay and found objects to create masterpieces inspired by artifacts in the museum's Ancient Treasures Gallery. Clay Beads – Beryl Salinger-Schmitt, instructor; ages 10-12; Sat., 10 a.m.-noon; Oct. 13-27. Make jewelry using natural clay that will be glazed and fired, as well as polymer clay. College Prep Drawing & Painting Portfolio, Part I – Cheryl Cardinale, instructor; ages 14-17; Sat., 11 a.m-3 p.m., Sept. 29-Nov. 17. Develop skills in drawing and painting in a variety of media, expand your portfolio, and learn about art schools and their admittance requirements. Out on a Limb: Taking Risks through Writing – Janet Sadler, instructor; ages 14-17; Thurs., 3-5 p.m., Oct. 4- Nov. 15. Use visual images from the museums to inspire your own writing, and read and respond to writings by contemporary authors and poets from around the world. Science Classes Creatures in the Shadows – Meredith Scrivens-Greene, instructor; ages 7-9; Sat., 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Sept. 22. Learn about owls, bats, flying squirrels, and spiders. Doctor for a Day – Deborah Naglieri-Prescod, instructor; ages 8-10; Sat., 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Nov. 3 & 10. With lab coats and stethoscopes, kids will learn to take a pulse, measure blood pressure, perform "surgery" and suture. Candy Chemistry – Debbie Naglieri-Prescod, instructor; ages 9-11; Sat., 10 a.m.-noon, Oct. 13 & 20. Make edible "glass" candy, fudge, lollipops, and other all natural sweets.
