The Springfield Museums’ Weekend Family Fun series will continue on Saturday, March 5, from 10 am-4 pm with a Dr. Seuss’s Birthday Celebration. Theodor Seuss Geisel was born in Springfield on March 2, 1904.
Weekend Family Fun programs are sponsored by TD Bank through the TD Charitable Foundation. Activities are free with museum admission unless noted.
Performances, noon and 2 pm
- Hip Hop Dimensions by Poetry in Motion Crew – A diverse group of dancers presents a family-friendly performance that inspires young people to think of dance as a positive outlet for artistic expression. They demonstrate the history, culture, and dance styles of Hip Hop and Break Dancing through their electrifying performance.
Ongoing activities:
- Meet the Cat in the Hat (11 am-3:30 pm)
- “Dr. Seuss Takes the Cake” contest. Vote for your favorite Seuss-themed cake decorated and donated by area bakeries. (11 am-2:30 pm) The winner will be announced at 2:45 p.m. Cake will not be served, but a free drawing will be held for the cakes.
- Go on scavenger hunts in the art and history museums. (11 am-3:45 pm)
- Make a Smiley Face ornament (11:30 am-3 pm)
- Stop by the New England Photo Booth and get a strip of pictures to remember the day. (11:30 am-3:30 pm)
- Design your own Dr. Seuss birthday cake hat. (Noon-3:45 pm)
- Demonstrations by the Roving Scientist (1-3:30 pm)
- Planetarium shows (11:15 am, noon, 1 & 2 pm; additional fee)
- See more than 20 live reptiles from around the world in the special exhibit Reptiles: The Beautiful and the Deadly. (additional fee)
