“We are so close,” said Heather Cahill, Director of Development for the Springfield Museums and the coordinator for the license plate initiative. “We need less than 300 applications. We already have so many people eager to make this specialty license plate a reality.”

Dr. Seuss License Plate celebrates Dr. Seuss’s legacy of inspiration, curiosity, and whimsy—he was, after all, the author who revolutionized learning to read by making it FUN!

“This plate is an opportunity to celebrate all that makes learning fun,” said Kay Simpson, President and CEO of the Springfield Museums. The Museums staff, Simpson said, is excited by this opportunity especially because driving with this plate is a way for the entire state to celebrate the fact that Dr. Seuss is a Massachusetts native. “Plus,” Simpson added, “Dr. Seuss was all about nurturing curiosity, which is the foundation of any good museum. He once wrote: ‘Think and wonder. Wonder and think.’ That is the recipe for expanding your mind available at the Springfield Museums.”

Susan Brandt, President of Dr. Seuss Enterprises, commented, “We are delighted sponsor the use of the Cat in the Hat imagery on this wonderful license plate. We see this whimsical plate as part of the ongoing effort to properly honor and preserve Ted Geisel’s Springfield, Massachusetts, heritage for generations to come.”

“Dr. Seuss’s creativity has inspired generations to dream big and his own ingenuity taught millions the joy of learning,” said Senator James T. Welch (D-West Springfield). “We’re lucky to be able to call Dr. Seuss our own here in Springfield and these license plates will be a reminder to all residents of the Commonwealth of the joy and impact his stories and illustrations have made in all of our lives—forever joining the spirit of Seuss and Massachusetts.”

Proceeds from this license plate benefit the Springfield Museums, home of the Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum. The Springfield Museums is a nonprofit organization comprised of five interdisciplinary museums situated around a quadrangle green in the heart of downtown Springfield. Serving as “the people’s college” for more than 160 years, the Museums’ mission remains to warmly welcome visitors and encourage everyone to rediscover curiosity by exploring connections to art, science, history, and literature. Massachusetts residents can do their part to encourage curiosity and nurture a love of learning by purchasing a Dr. Seuss plate.
