Holiday Music from Latin America and Puerto Rico

Musicians Lorena Garay and Eugenio Huanca will present a Family Holiday Celebration of music from Latin America and Puerto Rico on Saturday, December 12, at 2 p.m. in the Davis Auditorium of the Michele & Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts at the Quadrangle.

The program is presented by Teatro Vida, a project of the Latino Breakfast Club. The event is sponsored in part by The Republican and El Pueblo Latino.

Guitarist Lorena Garay is an award-winning graduate of the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico and the Hartt School of Music. A native of Puerto Rico, she performs music with a strong Spanish guitar flavor, and also composes, records and produces broadcast-quality Latin music for use in television. She recently received the Latino de Oro 2009 Award for Music. Garay has performed extensively throughout the United States and Puerto Rico, both as a soloist and a multi-instrumentalist in various musical groups, including her own band, Surcari. She has performed with a variety of artists, including folk singer Roy Brown, Puerto Rican rock figure Tito Auger, concert guitarist Federico Cordero, and flamenco guitarist Val Ramos, among others. She has also opened for the renowned guitar duo Strunz and Farah. Garay is currently making a bilingual recording for children based on the folklore and culture of Puerto Rico and Latin America. The CD will be released in May 2010.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors. Tickets will be available at the door.  No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Free parking is available in the museum lots on Edwards Street.
