Intent to Deceive: Fakes and Forgeries in the Art World at the Michele & Donald D'Amour Museum of Fine Arts

March Culture & Cocktails Explores the Art of Forgery

The Springfield Museums invites visitors to explore the world of art forgers and the science used to reveal their deceptions at the next Culture & Cocktails program of the season. The event takes place on Thursday, March 6 from 5-8 pm at the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts.

The evening’s theme is “Intent to Deceive,” and is inspired by the groundbreaking exhibit of the same name currently on view at the D’Amour MFA. Attendees can enjoy a talk on art crime by FBI Special Agent Ian Smythe while also taking part in forensic science challenges led by museum educators. The evening will also include music and complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar by Elegant Affairs. Visitors are also able to tour related exhibits at the D’Amour Museum, including The Real Deal: Art of Authenticity. (Please note: there is an additional $5 special exhibit fee to view the Intent to Deceive exhibit).

Culture and Cocktails events take place on the first Thursday of most months, and are open to ages 21 and up. Admission is free for members of the Springfield Museums and $5 for nonmembers. Both museum members and nonmembers are encouraged to make advance reservations through www.springfieldmuseums.org or by phone at 413.263.6800, ext. 255.
