Museums à la Carte Lecture Focuses on New GUITAR Exhibit

On Thursday, January 24 at 12:15 p.m., the Springfield Museums will present a lecture on the evolution of the guitar by HP Newquist, Executive Director of the National Guitar Museum and creator of the new exhibit, GUITAR: The Instrument that Rocked the World. This talk, which will take place in the George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum, replaces the lecture originally scheduled for January 24 on American abstract art.

The new GUITAR exhibit, which is spread across the George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum and Springfield Science Museum, covers the history, art, and science behind the guitar. Newquist’s lecture will encompass the evolution of the guitar, the development of its design and aesthetic make-up, and its journey to becoming an American pop culture icon.

The Springfield Museums are located at 21 Edwards Street in downtown Springfield.  Admission is $4 ($2 for members of the Springfield Museums). Free, secure onsite parking is available.
