Springfield Museums Seek Director of Development

The selected candidate must be dynamic and entrepreneurial in order to lead the Springfield Museums in achieving institutional advancement goals.


Joining our dynamic team of Senior Managers, the Director of Development will be responsible for the design and implementation of a comprehensive strategic fundraising campaign to raise more than $2 million annually in restricted and unrestricted gifts, grants and sponsorships in support of exhibitions, education programs, general support, capital projects and other special events.  He/she will oversee the research of current and potential funders, manage the cultivation and solicitation of new and renewing funders, as well as oversee special funding events.  The Director of Development will manage the personal portfolio of individual donors, including prospect identification, qualification, engagement, solicitation and stewardship activities.  As well, he/she will oversee and coordinate other advocacy activities of trustees and staff.

The selected candidate must be self-motivated and creative, having direct experience in major gifts and planned giving along with demonstrated success as a leader of a fund-raising enterprise. A strong interest in museums and prior supervisory experience within a museum or educational organization is desired.  Superior communication, interpersonal, presentation and public speaking skills are required along with the ability to develop and sustain relations with donors.  The ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies as well as government agencies and the public is also necessary. Grant writing experience and knowledge of foundation and funding sources is essential. A Bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
