Summer Festival Days Week 4

Summer Festival Days at the Springfield Museums will continue from July 29 through August 1 with "Out of This World" four days of space-themed activities for families. Programs are free with the price of museum admission unless noted.


Tuesday, July 29 Performance: Storyteller Mary Jo Maichack presents "Sun, Moon, Stars, Shine," 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 30 Performance: Astronomy educator Bob Crelin presents the interactive program "An Introduction to the Universe Around Us," 1 p.m. Live animal demonstrations, 12:15-12:45 p.m. Thursday, July 13 Make a fuzzy space magnet, a magic scratch star ornament, and a flying saucer. Live animal demonstrations, 12:15-12:45 p.m. Friday, August 1 Performance: The children's entertainment group Toe Jam Puppet Band presents the lively "Toe Jam in Outer Space," 1 p.m. Tuesday through Friday: Pan for gems and fossils at the Museum Mining Company, noon-4 p.m. (additional fee) Art-making workshops, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Hands-on Family Science Adventures, Tues. – Thurs., 2-4 p.m.; Fri., noon-2 p.m. Planetarium shows, 11:15 a.m., noon, 1 & 2 p.m., Science Museum (additional fee). Crafts and Costumes in the Art Discovery Center, noon-3:45 p.m. Future programs in the "Summer Festival Days" series are: August 5-8 – Summer Carnival August 13-15 – Favorite Fables "Summer Festival Days" are funded in part by the Springfield Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council; by MassMutual Financial Group; and by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Dept. of Business and Technology/Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism.
