The Springfield Museums will hold an Open House for principals, teachers and PTO leaders from Pre-K through 12th grade schools on Wednesday, October 1, from 3:30-6:30 p.m. The event will help school educators learn about the Museums and how a field trip can supplement classroom study. Admission is free with a school ID. Teachers may bring one guest free of charge. Refreshments will be served. Advance registration is required.
Participants will see demonstrations of school programs and interact with museum education staff while touring the Science Museum, Michele and Donald D'Amour Museum of Fine Arts, and George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum. Teachers will learn the procedure for booking field trips and will be able to submit individual field trip requests. Resources on how to use pre- and post-visit lesson materials will also be shared. All attendees will receive discount coupons worth $1 off per student, the chance to win a $100 school gift basket from the Museum Store, and a packet including the new school program brochure and a list of the curriculum connections for all programs. Educators will also receive a 10% discount in the Museum Store. To register for this event, send an email with "Springfield Museums Teacher Open House" in the subject line to schooltours@springfieldmuseums.org by Wednesday, September 24, or call the Museums at 413.263.6800, ext. 322.
