Space is still available in "Art and History in Our Nation's Capital," a museum-sponsored trip to Washington, D.C., scheduled for Oct. 2-5, 2008.


Art historian William Kloss will accompany the group on a four-day tour of museums, galleries and monuments. A resident of Washington, D.C., Kloss is associated with the Smithsonian Institution as an independent scholar, curator and lecturer, and has presented more than 100 courses on subjects ranging from ancient Greek art to Impressionism. He has also written and contributed to books on the art collections of the White House, the Department of State, the U.S. Senate, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. The itinerary will include the Phillips Collection, featuring an exhibition of the Jacob Lawrence Migration Series; the Smithsonian American Art Museum, including the special exhibition Georgia O'Keeffe and Ansel Adams; and the National Portrait Gallery. There will also be guided tours by coach of the Mall, Capitol Hill, and national monuments, including the Vietnam and FDR memorials. In addition to the planned itinerary, there will be free time to explore the city on your own. The tour leaves from the Springfield Museums at 8 a.m. and returns at 6 p.m. The cost is $948, double occupancy, and includes three nights at the St. Gregory Hotel in Dupont Circle, transportation by private coach, admissions and meals as listed in the itinerary, and tips.
