Teatro Vida Youth Ensemble to Perform at Museum

Teatro Vida will present their second season's original multi-media performance, "…and literacy for all," on Sunday, March 29, at 2 p.m. in the Davis Auditorium of the Michele & Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts at the Quadrangle.

Teatro Vida is a project of the Latino Breakfast Club. The program is supported in part by a grant from the Springfield Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Additional support has been provided by Hispanic Resources, Inc., Gandara Health, MassMutual Financial Group, and Baystate Health.

"…and literacy for all" is an intergenerational celebration of all forms of literacy, including physical, written, oral and visual literacy. The performance has been scripted by a diverse youth ensemble, ages 12-18, with the guidance of artistic director Magdalena Gomez of Springfield. The program will incorporate photography, video, ancient ritual, and even super heroes and “sheroes.”

The performance features original music composed by Heshima Moja. His band, Ofrecimiento, includes the noted musicians Owen Brown of the Sun Ra Arkestra, Kevin Sharpe, Abi Robles, and Damion Curtis. Guest vocalist is Rene Robles of La Perfecta Orchestra, and guest dancers are Waleska Lugo de Jesus and Xavier Robles. Costumes are by Kim Parlengas.

Teatro Vida’s limited edition intergenerational anthology, “…and literacy for all: Poems, Monologues and Scenes for Teens,” will be available for sale.

The performance is for ages 12 and up only. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors.
