Nominations are still being accepted for the 2009 Ubora Award (Swahili for Excellence) sponsored by the African Hall Subcommittee of the Springfield Museums. The committee has honored an outstanding African-American in the Greater Springfield community yearly since 1992.
The Springfield community is invited to be part of the event by nominating candidates for this year’s award. Nominees must be African Americans who have demonstrated a commitment to the Springfield community and exhibited excellence in the fields of community service, education, science, humanities or the arts. The award will be presented at a ceremony and reception on Sept.19 at the Springfield Museums.
