George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum Closed for Restoration

Veterans Welcome Free at Museums on Nov. 11 [UPDATED]

In honor of Veteran’s Day, the Springfield Museums is offering free general admission to current or retired members of the military on Tuesday, November 11. Extra fees for special programs like planetarium shows may apply – at the time of entry, respondents must show a military ID documenting that they are active duty, retired, or reserve from Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, or National Guard. Veterans who left military service before retirement can bring a copy of their honorable discharge paperwork (DD Form 214).

At the Wood Museum of Springfield History, visitors can view exhibits of Springfield-built Indian Motocycles, Rolls-Royces, Smith & Wesson firearms, and a limited showing Through a New Lens: Veterans Focus on Healing Through Photography, featuring images taken by combat veterans who completed a phototherapy program designed to aid those suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Other current exhibits include Let it Snow: Winter Scenes in Snow Globes and Japanese Prints at the D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts, as well as newly installed galleries of rare artifacts at the George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum and the Springfield Science Museum.
