Museums to Host Medieval Days

Families are invited to enter the magical world of lords, ladies and knights in shining armor during “Medieval Days” at the Springfield Museums from December 27 to 30. Activities are free with the price of museum admission unless noted.


Scheduled Performances, 1 p.m. unless noted, D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts

·         Sunday, Dec. 27 – The Reluctant Dragon by the Lionheart Puppet Company, 2 p.m.

·         Monday, Dec. 28 – The Firebird by the Puppet People

·         Tuesday, Dec. 29 – The Wise Fool by Alexander, King of the Jesters

·         Wednesday, Dec. 30 – Falconry and the Medieval World, live birds of prey presentation by Wingmasters.

Daily Activities

·         Medieval Mix-up: A variety of Medieval-themed art activities that will change throughout the week, 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

·         Make your own Medieval goblet in the Art Discovery Center, noon-3:45 p.m.

·         Scavenger Hunts: Discover things invented and made in Springfield in the new Museum of Springfield History, and go on an “I Spy” scavenger hunt through the D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts; 11 a.m.-3:45 p.m.

·         Pan for gemstones and fossils at the Museum Mining Company, noon-3:45 p.m. (additional fee)

·         Buy a quick lunch at the Family Fun Café in the D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts, 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Mon.-Wed. only.

·         See a planetarium show, 11:15 a.m., noon, 1 & 2 p.m. (additional fee).

·         Family Science Adventures:  Investigate sound, electricity, dinosaurs and more through hands-on activities, 1-3:30 p.m.
