The Springfield Museums at the Quadrangle will present the following Museums à la Carte programs in May. The programs are held on Thursdays at 12:15 p.m. in the Museum of Fine Arts.
The Springfield Science Museum's large rooftop telescope will be open for public sky-gazing on Friday, May 2, at 7:30 p.m.
Springfield high school art students will showcase their work at the Museum of Fine Arts in the special exhibition Creativity Captured: Student Art from the Springfield Public Schools, on view now through July 13, 2008. A free reception with the young artists will be held on Thursday, May 1, from 5-7 p.m. at the museum.
The Springfield Museums will hold a special Teacher Open House for principals, teachers and PTO organizers from Pre-K through 12th grade schools on Tuesday, August 19, from 2:30-5:30 p.m. The event is designed to help school educators learn about the Museums and how a field trip can supplement classroom study.
The Springfield Science Museum will celebrate Earth Day with the annual Earth Day Festival on April 20 followed by "It's Cool to be Green," a week of Earth-friendly school vacation week activities. Activities are free with museum admission unless noted.
The Springfield Museums are pleased to announce a $150,000 Capital Campaign grant from MassMutual Financial Group for the new Museum of Springfield History. Construction of the new museum is underway in the former Verizon office building on Edwards Street, adjacent to the Springfield Museums' Quadrangle.
Richard Colton, historian for the Springfield Armory National Historic Site, will lead a walking tour of the site of Shays's Rebellion on the Armory grounds on Saturday, April 12, from 10:30 a.m.-noon. The tour will begin and end at the Springfield Museums on the Quadrangle at 21 Edwards Street.
