The oldest surviving Stevens-Duryea automobile is now on view in the Lyman & Merrie Wood Museum of Springfield History. The 1903 vehicle is on loan from a private collector.

The Stevens-Duryea was designed by Frank Duryea, whose Springfield-built 1893 Duryea was the first successful gasoline-powered automobile. In 1901, Duryea formed a contract to produce cars with the J. Stevens Arms Company, establishing the Stevens-Duryea Company. The company made some of the finest automobiles of its day and at its height was producing about 1,200 vehicles a year. But competition in the early years of the auto industry was fierce and in 1915 the company folded.

The 1903 Stevens-Duryea is displayed next to an exact copy of the original 1893 Duryea.
