Next month, a host of prehistoric creatures will take the Springfield Science Museum by storm. Life Through Time: Dinosaurs and Ice-Age Mammals will roar into the Springfield Museums on June 14 and go extinct on September 14, 2014.

Mojitos, Jaime Kent Featured at June Culture & Cocktails

Springfield Museums Host 'American Moderns' from Brooklyn Museum
Next month, an exhibit of master Modern paintings from the collection of the Brooklyn Museum will travel to the Springfield Museums. American Moderns, 1910-1960: From O’Keeffe to Rockwell opens on June 6 at the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts, and will be on display through August 31, 2014. American Moderns has been organized by the Brooklyn Museum; the exhibit’s local sponsors are Field Eddy, Inc. and Lyman and Leslie Wood. MassMutual is the 2014 Premier sponsor of the Springfield Museums.
Exhibit of Rockwell Drawings Set to Open at Springfield Museums
Later this month, the Springfield Museums will unveil a new exhibit of original drawings by Norman Rockwell titled Norman Rockwell’s World: Reinterpreting the American Tradition in the 21st Century. The drawings, along with an original Rockwell-inspired mural by local artist John Simpson, will be on display at the Lyman and Merrie Wood Museum of Springfield History from May 20 through January 4, 2015. MassMutual is the 2014 Premier Sponsor of the Springfield Museums.
Museums to Display Recent Gifts Peggy and David Starr
On May 13, a new exhibit titled Gifts from the Collection of Peggy and David Starrwill open at the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts. Long-time supporters of the Springfield Museums and active leaders in the arts community, the Starrs recently donated a dozen exceptional objects from their personal collection to the D’Amour Museum. A selection of the works will be placed on display in the gallery named for the couple---the Starr Gallery of Watercolors--- through August 17, 2014.
Indian Motocycle Day Returns to Springfield Museums
The Springfield Museums will host their fifth annual Indian Motocycle Day on Sunday, July 20 from 9 am until 3 pm.
Final Stars Over Springfield Program Until Fall
The Springfield Science Museum’s large rooftop telescope will be open for public sky gazing on Friday, May 2 at 7:30 pm as part of the “Stars Over Springfield” observatory series. These programs are organized by the Museum and the Springfield Stars Club, and take place on the first Friday of each month. This will be the final Stars event until the series renews again in September.
Museums Announce May Lectures & Tours 2014
The Springfield Museums’ monthly tour and lecture schedule continues in May with the popular Thursday Museums à la Carte lectures, held weekly at 12:15 pm in the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts. Admission is $4 ($2 for members of the Springfield Museums); visitors are invited to bring lunch (cookies and coffee are provided). The programs are sponsored by Big Y World Class Market.
Museums Display Artwork Honoring Local Team
On Friday, a new exhibition of original pastel paintings by children’s book illustrator Gerald Purnell will go on display at the Lyman and Merrie Wood Museum of Springfield History. The paintings were created to accompany the acclaimed children’s book by Richard Andersen titled A Home Run for Bunny. Andersen is currently a professor of writing at Springfield College and lives in Montague, MA. Purnell’s original pastel paintings will be on display through September 14 in a new gallery located near the entrance to the Springfield History Library & Archives.

Public Invited to Meet Steampunk Springfield Artists
On Sunday, April 27 from 1-5 pm, the Springfield Museums will host a special “Meet the Artists” event in conjunction with their current exhibition Steampunk Springfield: Re-Imagining an Industrial City. The exhibition includes works by over forty artists from around the region, all on view at the Lyman and Merrie Wood Museum of Springfield History and the George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum. The event is free with museum admission.
