Springfield Museums Announce Lectures and Tours for February
The Springfield Museums’ monthly tour and lecture schedule continues in February with the popular Thursday Museums à la Carte lectures, held weekly at 12:15 pm in the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts. Admission is $4 ($2 for members of the Springfield Museums); visitors are invited to bring lunch (cookies and coffee are provided).

Rainforest Adventure Awaits Families at the Springfield Museums; Special Opening Day Celebration Scheduled for January 25
Young visitors to the Springfield Science Museum will be able to take a virtual excursion deep into the rainforest, thanks to the Museums’ newest traveling exhibit, Rainforest Adventure. The exhibit, designed by Stepping Stones Museum for Children, will be open January 25 through May 11, 2014, and is sponsored by United Bank.

Stored on a shelf for over 100 hundred years, a rare anthropological treasure was recently discovered in the Springfield Science Museum’s permanent collections. Originally cataloged as an “Aleutian hat,” the artifact had been preserved in museum collections for over a century before being identified last month as a war helmet from the Tlingit people of Alaska. Beautifully carved and with much of the original paint still visible, the helmet is one of a relatively small number in existence worldwide. Next month, a provocative new exhibit about art forgery will have its international debut at the Springfield Museums. Intent to Deceive: Fakes and Forgeries in the Art World will open on January 21 at the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts, and will be on display through April 27, 2014. A Hidden Treasure Revealed: Rare Tlingit War Helmet Discovered at Springfield Science Museum

New Currier & Ives Exhibit Opens at D'Amour Museum of Fine Arts
This month, the Springfield Museums unveiled a new exhibit of Currier & Ives prints from the collection of the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts. The display, titled The Connoisseurship of Currier & Ives, is on view through June 15, 2014. The Museum is home to one of the largest permanent collections of Currier & Ives prints.
Culture & Cocktails Offers an Evening of “Champagne and Moonlight”
The Springfield Museums will host their third Culture & Cocktails event of the season on Thursday, December 12 from 5-8 pm at the Springfield Science Museum.
