The Gala provides a wonderful opportunity to both individuals and corporate donors to help underwrite the many innovative exhibits and educational programs offered by the Springfield Museums. Next week, the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts will unveil two exhibits to help usher in the holiday season. A Peek Inside Santa’s Sack: Vintage Cast Iron Toys and Season’s Greetings: Photographer’s Holiday Cards both open on November 12, 2013 and run through January 5, 2014. In honor of Veteran’s Day, the Springfield Museums is offering free admission to current or retired members of the military on Monday, November 11. Although the Museums campus is normally closed on Mondays, all four museums and the Dr. Seuss Sculpture Garden will be open for families and visitors to enjoy on the holiday.

The Springfield Museums’ monthly tour and lecture schedule continues in November with the popular Thursday Museums à la Carte lectures, held weekly at 12:15 p.m. in the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts. Talk on Comet ISON featured at Museums' Stars Program

The Springfield Science Museum’s large rooftop telescope will be open for public sky gazing on Friday, November 1 at 7:30 pm as part of the Stars Over Springfield observatory series. The program takes place on the first Friday of each month from September through May, and features an introductory talk on topics such as space exploration, seasonal sights of the night sky, current astronomical research, or upcoming events like eclipses or comet appearances.
