Margarita Madness Hits Museums
The Springfield Museums will be in the grip of “Margarita Madness” at their next Culture & Cocktails event of the season. The event takes place on Thursday, May 2 from 5-8 pm at the Lyman and Merrie Wood Museum of Springfield History, and is sponsored by Merrill Lynch-Foundation Management Group.
Springfield Museums Announce May Tours & Lectures
The Springfield Museums’ monthly tours and lecture schedule kicks off in May with the popular Thursday Museums à la Carte lectures, held weekly at 12:15 pm in the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts.
Legendary Photographer to Speak at Museums
On Sunday, April 21, the Springfield Museums will present a lecture by legendary photographer Bill Eppridge titled 1964: Beatlemania and America’s Changing Times. The lecture will take place at 2 pm in the Davis Auditorium of the D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts, the same building that is hosting the current exhibit, The Beatles! Backstage and Behind the Scenes, which includes many images taken by Eppridge in the days and weeks following the band’s arrival in North America. The talk is free with Museum admission.
Museums Host Puppet Celebration for April Vacation
The Springfield Museums have announced their slate of activities for the upcoming school vacation week, April 15-19, 2013. The week-long program, titled Puppets Around the World, will feature performances by some of the region’s finest puppet ensembles, along with live animal demonstrations, interactive displays, planetarium shows, and hands-on art opportunities. All activities are free with the price of museum admission unless noted otherwise.
April 2013 Stars over Springfield at Museums
The Springfield Science Museum’s large rooftop telescope will be open for public sky-gazing on Friday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Stars Over Springfield observatory series.

On Thursdays, the popular Museums à la Carte lectures are held at 12:15 p.m. in the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts. Springfield Museums Celebrate Spring’s Arrival with “Festival of Flowers”
See the Springfield Museums in bloom! Visitors are invited to celebrate the coming of spring during the Festival of Flowers, April 4-7, 2013. Over 40 objects from the art, history and science collections will be interpreted by local florists, designers, and garden club members.
Museums to Host Valley Guitar Showcase
On Sunday, March 10 at 1 pm, the Springfield Museums will present a special afternoon of music titled “The Valley Guitar Showcase.” The event, which is being presented in cooperation with JAM 4 Springfield, is part of a series of programs related to the Museums’ current exhibit, GUITAR: The Instrument That Rocked the World. The March 10 event will take place in the Davis Auditorium of the D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts, and is sponsored by Catuogno Court Reporting and StenTel Transcription, Western New England University, The New England Farm Workers Council, Flores Development, and Mercy Medical Center. The event is free with Museum admission.
The Beatles! Exhibit Set to Open at Museums
A new exhibition at the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts will transport museum-goers back to a pivotal moment in American cultural history. The Beatles! Backstage and Behind the Scenes will be on view from March 12-June 2, 2013, and is sponsored by FieldEddy Insurance and Raymond James and Associates. Monthly Astronomy Program at Museums
The Springfield Science Museum’s large rooftop telescope will be open for public sky-gazing on Friday, March 1 at 7:30 pm. The program will be held rain or shine. If it is cloudy, a planetarium show will be presented in place of telescope viewing.
