The Springfield Museums will present the following Museums à la Carte programs in May. The programs are held on Thursdays at 12:15 pm in the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts.
In the Footsteps of the Masters: Painting by Christina Mastrangelo
Paintings that evoke the work of the “old master” artists of the Renaissance will be on view from April 19 through July 10 at the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts in the special exhibition In the Footsteps of the Masters: Painting by Christina Mastrangelo.
Printmakers from the Bauhaus School: 1919-1933
An exhibition of prints by American and European artists associated with the Bauhaus School in Germany is on view at the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts through October 30.
April 2011 Vacation Week Activities Highlight Earth Day
The Springfield Museums will celebrate Earth Day with the annual Earth Day Festival on April 17 followed by “Earth Week: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle,” a week of environment-friendly school vacation week performances and activities from April 18-22.
Springfield Museums to Raise Funds for Japan Disaster Relief
“An Evening for Japan,” an event benefiting the American Red Cross Disaster Relief for the Japanese Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami, will be held on Wednesday, Mar. 30, from 5 to 7 pm in the George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum at the Quadrangle.
Stars Over Springfield at the Springfield Science Museum
In recognition of April Fools Day, Richard Sanderson, curator of physical science at the Springfield Science Museum, will present “Foolish Astronomy” on Friday, April 1, at 7:30 pm at the museum. The program will focus on astronomical misconceptions.
Walking Tour to Highlight Underground Railroad
Lujuana Hood, director of the Pan-African Heritage Museum of the USA (PAHMUSA), will discuss the Underground Railroad in Springfield during a walking tour on Saturday, April 9, from 10:30 am to noon.

It’s Easy Being Green at the Springfield Museums
The Springfield Museums’ Culture & Cocktails series will continue on Thursday, April 7, with “Think Green.” The event will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 pm in the Springfield Science Museum at the Quadrangle.

Performance of Pinocchio is Highlight of Museum Program for Families
The Springfield Museums’ Weekend Family Fun series will continue on Saturday, April 2, with “P is for Puppet.” Activities will take place from 10 am to 4 pm and are free with museum admission unless noted.
Exhibit Celebrates Springfield Women through History
In recognition of the 100th anniversary of Women’s History Month in March and the 375th anniversary of the founding of the city of Springfield, the Lyman & Merrie Wood Museum of Springfield History will present the exhibition Women’s Work: The Untold Story from March 1 through September 25. The exhibition was developed with the assistance of guest curator Frances Gagnon.
