Alan Rifkin, president of the Springfield Stars Club, will teach people how to properly observe the heavens through their backyard telescopes at the Springfield Science Museum on Friday, March 4, at 7:30 pm.

Get an Early Start on Mardi Gras at the Springfield Museums
The Springfield Museums' Culture & Cocktails series will continue on Thursday, March 3, with “Fat Thursday: A Taste of New Orleans.” The event will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Lyman & Merrie Wood Museum of Springfield History at the Quadrangle.
Celebrate Dr. Seuss’s 107th Birthday at the Springfield Museums
The Springfield Museums’ Weekend Family Fun series will continue on Saturday, March 5, from 10 am-4 pm with a Dr. Seuss’s Birthday Celebration. Theodor Seuss Geisel was born in Springfield on March 2, 1904.
Springfield Museums Announce New Expanded Hours
The Springfield Museums at the Quadrangle have announced new expanded hours effective February 12. The Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts, the Lyman and Merrie Wood Museum of Springfield History, the Springfield Science Museum, and the George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum will be open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am-5 pm, and Sunday, 11 am-5 pm.
Science Museum Offers Overnight Camp-Ins for Scout Groups
The Springfield Science Museum is offering overnight camp-in programs for Girl Scout and Boy Scout groups. Scouts participate in a variety of hands-on activities that will help them earn the requirements for badges, belt loops or try-its. All groups will see a planetarium show and decorate a T-shirt with a screen-print design. They will also enjoy an evening pizza party, and a light breakfast in the morning.
Spend February Vacation Rockin’ with the Reptiles
The Springfield Museums have planned a week of family fun during February school vacation. “Rockin’ Reptiles Week” activities will be offered Monday, Feb. 21, through Friday, Feb. 25, from 10 am-5 pm and are free with museum admission unless noted.
The Legacy of Currier & Ives: Shaping the American Spirit
Often found on calendars, cookie tins and Christmas cards, Currier & Ives images strike a nostalgic chord in many people. A selection of the firm’s hand-colored lithographs will be on view at the Michele & Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts from February 1 through May 1 in the special exhibition The Legacy of Currier & Ives: Shaping the American Spirit.
Nominees Being Sought for 2011 Ahadi and Ubora Awards
The African Hall Subcommittee of the Springfield Museums is seeking nominations for the 3nd annual Ahadi Youth Award and 20th annual Ubora Award. Nominations for both awards must be received by March 31, 2011.

Currier & Ives and the Majesty of the Sea: Clipper Ships and Steamboats
Images of majestic clipper ships, powerful steamboats and great maritime races will be on view from January 25 through June 26 at the Michele & Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts in the exhibition Currier & Ives and the Majesty of the Sea: Clipper Ships and Steamboats.

The Springfield Science Museum’s large rooftop telescope will be open for public sky-gazing on Friday, Feb. 4, at 7:30 pm. The program will be held rain or shine. If it is overcast, a planetarium show will be presented in place of telescope viewing.
