Museum Trustees Appoint New Vice President
The Board of Trustees of the Springfield Museums has appointed Kay Simpson as the Vice President of the Springfield Museums.
Grant from TD Charitable Foundation Supports Family Programs
The Springfield Museums have received a $10,000 grant from TD Bank through the TD Charitable Foundation for the Museums’ Weekend Family Fun series of educational programs.
D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts Presents Exhibit of Contemporary Realism
A selection of art in the style of contemporary realism will be on view from September 21 through October 24 at the Michele & Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts in the Academic Artists 60th Anniversary Exhibition.
Springfield Museums Host Car Show
The Springfield Museums will pay tribute to Springfield’s role in transportation history with the History on the Move car show on Saturday, September 25, from 10 am to 4 pm, on the museum grounds at the Quadrangle. Pre-1980 cars, including some vintage automobiles manufactured in Springfield, will be exhibited.
Outdoor Sculpture by James Kitchen Displayed on Museum Grounds
Saturn, a found-object sculpture by Chesterfield artist James Kitchen, will be on view on the grounds of the Springfield Museums from September 1, 2010 through May 1, 2011.
Walking Tour to Visit St. Michael’s Cathedral
Springfield historian Frances Gagnon will lead a walking tour of St. Michael’s Cathedral on Saturday, September 11, from 10:30 am-noon.

Currier & Ives Exhibition Features Images of Childhood
The firm of Currier & Ives is known for its idealized images of life in 19th-century America. As with other subjects, Currier & Ives presented an optimistic, romanticized vision of childhood. A selection of these prints is displayed in the exhibition Season of Joy: Celebrating Childhood in Currier & Ives Prints, on view now through January 23, 2011, in the Michele & Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts.
Springfield Museums Announce Fall Hours and Planetarium Schedule
The Springfield Museums will resume fall hours on September 1. Hours at the Michele & Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts, the Lyman & Merrie Wood Museum of Springfield History, and the George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum are Tuesday through Sunday, 11 am-4 pm The Science Museum is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 am-5 pm, and Sunday, 11 am-5 pm.
2010 Ubora Award and Ahadi Youth Award Recipients to be Honored
The African Hall Subcommittee of the Springfield Museums will present the 19th annual Ubora Award and the 2nd annual Ahadi Youth Award at a ceremony on Saturday, September 18, at 7 pm, at the Michele & Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts at the Quadrangle. Ms. Zelmon “Zee” Johnson has been selected to receive the Ubora Award, and Monique Farrell will receive the Ahadi Award.
September Museums à la Carte Programs
The Springfield Museums at the Quadrangle will present the following Museums à la Carte programs in September. The programs are held on Thursdays at 12:15 pm in the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts.
Stars Over Springfield at the Springfield Science Museum
The Springfield Science Museum’s large rooftop telescope will be open for public sky-gazing on Friday, Sept. 3, at 7:30 pm. The program will be held rain or shine. If it is overcast, a planetarium show will be presented in place of telescope viewing.
