Digital collage paintings by artist and teacher Robert Masla will be on view at the Michele & Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts from July 21 through October 18.
Walking Tour to Visit Spanish-Style Architecture
Spanish-style architecture in Springfield will be the topic of a walking tour on Saturday, July 11, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Local historian Steve Shultis will point out downtown architectural features that are similar to those found in Spain. Some examples are the Mudéjar-style (Moorish) brickwork on some of the buildings and the alternating red and white stone on the South Congregational Church which is similar to stone work on the great Mosque of Córdoba.
It’s Bubble Mania at the Springfield Museums
The Springfield Museums’ Summer Festival Days will continue July 13 through 17 with “Bubble Mania.” Activities are free with the price of museum admission unless noted.

Currier & Ives Exhibition Features Images of Animals
Currier & Ives are known for their idealized images of rural life in America. In keeping with this theme, the firm created many “parlor” prints of young children interacting with household pets and barnyard companions. A selection of these prints will be displayed in the exhibition Feathers and Fur: Animal Companions in Currier & Ives Prints, on view from June 30, 2009, through Jan. 24, 2010, in the Michele & Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts.
Celebrate Summer 2009 at the Springfield Museums
Family fun is in store for visitors to the Springfield Museums from July 6 through August 14 during “Summer Festival Days,” six-weeks of live performances, puppet shows, art activities, and hands-on science activities.

The Springfield Museums at the Quadrangle will be open seven days a week from June 29 through August 31.
Sun to Power Championship in Springfield
Hundreds of middle school students from across the Northeast will converge on the Springfield Museums' Quadrangle on June 14 to compete in the 11th annual Northeast Regional Junior Solar Sprint model solar car competition organized by the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA). Racing begins at 10 a.m. and is open to the public. Awards will be presented at 3 p.m.
In Search of Early-19th-Century Springfield
Downtown Springfield's rapid development in the period between the Civil War and World War I led to the loss of most early buildings. On Saturday, June 13, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, local historian Bob McCarroll will lead a walking tour of houses remaining from the first half of the 19th century. Built when Springfield was still a town, these homes represent Federal and Greek Revival styles which predated the Victorian age.

The Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts will celebrate its 75th anniversary with a multi-gallery exhibition that highlights the history of the museum through the artwork it has acquired, exhibited, and loaned through the years. A Tradition of Excellence: The D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts Celebrates 75 Years will be on view from May 29, 2009, through February 21, 2010.
