The Springfield Museums have announced that the popular exhibition Currier & Ives: An American Panorama, on display at the Museum of Fine Arts, has been extended until September 10, 2006. (Original closing date was June 4.)

The Springfield Science Museum will celebrate Astronomy Day on Saturday, May 6, from noon to 4 p.m. Weather permitting, visitors will have an opportunity to look at sunspots through specially-filtered telescopes set up on the Quadrangle by museum staff and volunteers from the Springfield Stars Club. Visits to the museum's large rooftop observatory will take place throughout the afternoon.

The work of a Southwick artist will be on display in the Community Gallery at the Museum of Fine Arts from May 23 through September 17 in the exhibition New England Vistas: Paintings by Carolyn Avery.

The Springfield Museums are among 56 museums and cultural institutions in the Northeast that are participating in Bank of America's Museums On Us! program in May.

The Springfield Museums at the Quadrangle will present the following Museums à la Carte programs in May. Museums à la Carte programs are held on Thursdays at 12:15 p.m. in the Museum of Fine Arts.

Members of the Springfield Stars Club will set up telescopes for public sky-gazing on the Springfield Museums' Quadrangle on Friday, May 5, at 7:30 p.m.

The Springfield Science Museum will hold its 16th annual Earth Day celebration with a family festival on the Quadrangle green and a city-wide clean up of Springfield parks and conservation lands.

The Currier & Ives lecture series at the Museum of Fine Arts will continue on April 2 at 2 p.m. with Currier & Ives: Constructing What It Meant to Be American. The talk will be presented by Barry O'Connell, professor of English at Amherst College.
